Dicyandiamide in papermaking

Introduction:

Dicyandiamide is mainly made into dicyandiamide-formaldehyde resin. It is used for wet/dry strength improvement, retention and drainage aid, bleaching activation, anti-aging of insulating paper and wastewater decolorization in papermaking. It is low-cost and effective, yet traditional products contain free formaldehyde and are restricted for food-grade paper.

EU REACH strictly controls formaldehyde and promotes low/no formaldehyde modified resins.Japan clarified the anti-aging mechanism of insulating paper in 2026, driving global formula upgrading.Major international chemical firms raised prices of dicyandiamide-based additives, increasing procurement costs in Asia-Pacific.Southeast Asia applies it to waste paper wastewater treatment, with tightening environmental assessments.
